Basic Guide in using Tools for WEB Site Work
If you wish to print this page use Landscape it is 16 pages
Information for those of you who wish to do their own work.

If you have a WEB Site you can organize  with me and I will give you the Domain Name, User Name and Password.

This is how it works:
When I do work with you normally you are embedded into my work and I carry the costs.

Once you do your own work I give you the WEB Site that includes Hosting.

Netfirms that  I use allow you to have a Domain Name and Hosting and has no charge giving you 5 MB space.
Not charging Netfirms has a Banner at the top. If you want the Banner removed immediately you need to upgrade your Hosting. It is better to not upgrade until you work out how things are going.

5 MB is a  bit of space but not for a complete WEB Site.  You can have a decent WEB Site. When the WEB Site grows you might use up all of the 5 MB that means you have to upgrade and that means you need to pay Netfirms about $70 to upgrade and have more space. That means each year you need to pay something like a $100.00 a year. This upgrade can be organised through me.

To put together a WEB Site and then add content and maintain your WEB Site requires you to put in the time. In many occasions people cannot afford the time and when I visit they normally organize me to do the work. You can organise a monthly payment with me or pay me an amount and I will do the work

If you want your WEB Site to be a Shopping Cart you will need to talk to me because I will set up completely the Shopping Cart and all you will need to do is put on the Buttons and have a PayPal Account. The Paypal Shopping Cart is a pleasure to use for you doing the work and for Customers. Anyway talk to me about it. A sample Shopping cart is www.dubboindex.com  works fully. Information still to be added.
The price of setting up the Shopping Cart is $300.00. I set it up then I show you how to do the work and make the changes each week. You can change prices as often as you like. This Shopping cart is a pleasure to use. You will be happy with it. Talk to me dejong3@bigpond.com or Mobile 0408 716 567

..............
Some people do organize with  me to do a WEB Site and to set it up for them to do the Shopping Cart themselves. Sometimes people find they do not have the time. If that is you you can organize me to set up the Shopping Cart to the level you see here. This Sample Shopping Cart.. To do that for you is at least two full days so that is why I charge at least $250.00. Do talk to me you can have a Shopping Cart which your Customers are happy to use. But you will need to find the time to put the PayPal Buttons into your WEB Site.

Basic guide in using tools for WEB Site Work
As I visit there are three tools you should have to do your WEB Site work.
1/   FrontPage Editor.  2/  Photo Editor  3/ FTP to transfer your work such as Core FTP or WEB CEO or other. from your Computer to the Publish Site   4/ Help with PayPal Buttons

Item 1/  If you have  FrontPage 2000 or 2003 or even the latest  Microsoft Editor Expression or any other Editor the steps are the same. You will need to experiment and you can use Help Index sitting at the top of your  FrontPage Editor.
I will use  FrontPage 2003.
On your Computer you should have  FrontPage installed
Open your  Computer and open  FrontPage.
Go to the Folder that has your WEB Sites.
Open the Click WEB Site and if you have nothing there put a New Folder. Call it what you like, Your Business etc.
Click the New Folder and there should be nothing there unless I put info there.
I will have Published your WEB Site so all you will need to do is bring it down into your Computer.
I should have given you the Domain Name such as www.the domainname.com etc and a  User Name and Password.
Now you can transfer the WEB Site I published down into your Computer using FTP such as Core FTP
For information go to Item 3 below

.......................
Open your  FrontPage go to File top left and open or the Yellow Folder you see on the Task Pane next to Create a New Normal Page New and go to My WEB Sites and you should see the Folder with your Business. Click that Folder and you should see all the files for your WEB Site.

In the File Name Window under the files put index.htm open and your first page will come up.
This index.htm  can never be called something else because the WEB Site will not work.
.
I will cover
How to Set up Tables. Tables allow you to put Text and Photos where you wish on a page
How to put Photos on your site and to resize the Photo. A good habit is that if you take photos somewhere on your Site or the Internet, put them straight into your Photo Editor to do the work with resizing , painting etc.  When you place it on  your WEB Site and when you save, you should see a window with the name of the page and .jpg. . or
JIF.  Write it somewhere and record the the page where you put the photos, Icon so that you only have to transfer work you have done.  You transfer each time your Page and the Photo. Transfer those two items instead of having to transfer the whole site each time. But if you get lost simply transfer the Lot.
How to add pages
How to use Hyperlinks

As you work you can check whether your work is correct by looking at the Browser sitting on  FrontPage. Go into File and look for Preview Browser click that and see if your Site Works correct.

If you need help go into Help and click the Office Assistant it will be installed and I found it best to use for help

In case Pane Tasks are not visible on your page go into View above and click Toolbars and tick Drawing. Pictures, Tables and the top should be ticked Standard and Formatting. you can move the Task Panes around the page at the end you will see dotes a cross comes up and you can move them. Have these Task Panes in place makes your work easier instead of always going to the top of the page.
For me I put the Drawing Task Pane on the left page. The right the Table Task Pane on the right and below I put Pictures Task Pane.

Now you are ready to work.
Do not be afraid to experiment because you can do something and redo your actions for over 13 times each time. Simply go into Edit and the top entry allows you to redo your work. So experiment. Do it and redo till you get the hand of doing things.

I am assuming you have set your page up as I suggest.

Ok. Let us go.

Tables. I will only discuss the three actions I use on the Table Pane Task. Others you can experiment.
a/  Eraser, b/   Draw Table and   c/  Draw Layout Cell.  They are together. Eraser, then top two above

b/ To have a Table with columns and  rows .
On the Draw Table click it  a pencil  is the pointer. To remove it click the draw table again the pencil pointer is gone
Rows One the page simply hold down the left mouse click and you can make the table. That gives you a rectangle box and inside the box simple put in the number of rows you want backwoods and forwards. It might be 2 maybe 10 it does not matter.
Columns To have columns simply inside the box go vertically down to have as many as boxes you want..
Resize  Put the pointer over the border a double arrow comes up and you can change the size of the Table Boxes

The Table you draw may be on the left of your page to put it in the centre of your page go to the top of your page click Table and then Table Properties then click Table . Below is the window you will see.

To centralize your table, in Layout  the Alignment window click the arrow and click center at the bottom apply and click ok. Your table will move to the centre of your page.

This Table window is interesting to experiment to use all its benefits in the size of borders, spaces colors. Simply experiment. Don't forget you can use edit to redo what you did to fix mistakes up to 13 times and more. If you want people not to see your table you can go in Borders and change Size to 0 and your work will be where you place it on the page but people will not see you used a table.
The Table is great for it is like a grid on your page and you place items on the page where you want it. Experiment and you can use the File then View Browser to see if things work as they should. Change things as you like till you are happy and then you can publish your work.

a/  Eraser Click Eraser and a rubber is the pointer and you go into the Table and remove the lines you want to remove.

c/  Draw Layout Cell  This allows you to put a Table inside your Table it is more complicated to use but you will have to experiment.  I use it, but not often, because I find it difficult to use .

The Table has a lot of uses and I use it for all my work.
....................................
Item 2/  How to put Photos, Images on your page?

Find your image and put it into your Photo Editor. I use  Image Composer. You can use any Photo Editor you have. Make the image as you want, its size and anything else you want to change on your Photo, Image. Then copy the image where you want it on the page. If it does not fit you can resize by clicking the image. You can copy and paste it where ever you want as often as you like. Once you are happy you can Save your page. When you Save a window comes up giving a name to your image and you can call the image whatever you like before you  click ok.

Please note. always put your Image into a Photo Editor because it will save a lot of heart aches because often to transfer straight onto your page from  a folder in your Computer or Internet may not work properly when you publish it.
If you use Pictures such as Windows it is still better to transfer into a Photo Editor to resize etc.
........................................
Back to Item 1

Hyperlinks allow you to go from one page to another. For instance if you wanted to add a page and add another Button on your Front page . The Index Page . You can add a page and to make sure you do not lose the page you will need to add a Button.  Decide where you want the Button. You can then go to the top click Insert then click
If I have already put Buttons on your page put the pointer over it right click and click Button Properties and that will show you the Button. That way you can use the same Button if you wish.
Interactive Button and choose one. The window looks like this.

Call the Button what you want the new page to be called. Text window.
Font  also a window here so that when people put a pointer over your Button the Colour can change etc. Experiment.
Image  How small or large you want your Button to be. The size of your Button can be determined by what you call want to call your page, the Button. To keep the Button uniform you will pick a Button large enough to have the text. This can be done immediately. Put the Text, then change the size of the Button to suit your Text..
Page is?
You can use anything as a Button it can be simply text, or even a Photo, Icon.
Page is

Once you have decided you need a new page you can go to the File at the top click new and then pick a Blank Page or a Template. If the Template is what you want use it or simply use Blank Page and you can then put information text photos on the blank page using the tables as discussed. Then save your page and make sure you save the page into your Folder where your WEB Site sits. All your work, Photos etc has to be put inside the Folder where your WEB Site sits. Otherwise nothing works when you Publish your Site.
Page is?
Put your pointer over the button or highlight the text which is to act like a button right click and at the botton  left click  Hyperlink. This window comes up:

In the large window you should see the new page. (if you do not see the new page something is wrong so look at where you saved the new page because you could have saved it outside of your Folder where your WEB Site is. When you see your page Click that,  and then you will see on the bottom Address your new page. Click ok. So then save where the button is. A window will come if you use the interactive Button so record that the same as when you save your Images, Photos.

Hyperlinks are used the same way every time and you can also turn your Button the Email Button. Call the Button Email then the window above on the left you will see Email you click that and put your Email Address.

You can add as many pages as you like as many categories as you like the system is the same each time.

Once you have finished your work you can then Publish the work or changes.
If you do a lot of work you might Publish the entire WEB site again. I often do that.
Or
if you keep track of the pages, photos etc and keep a note somewhere you can just Publish the changes.
Two important points need to be made.
If you Publish photos, icons etc with out publishing the page where you did the work the changes will not be seen.
Publish the Page and the other items such as Photos, other Icons. Whenever you put a Photo or Icon on a page a window comes up giving the photo or icon a place. So you have two items to change. If you forget just do things again.

Once Published just go to Internet Explorer and see how things look if you are unhappy then you just go back and redo your work till you are satisfied.  Often when you use the Internet Explorer you will need to refresh the site. On your Computer Cookies will bring up your old page.

If you cannot get changes to work it could be that the Computer is bringing up old work. So then go into your Internet Explorer Bottom click Tools then down to  Internet Options and in Browsing history click Delete. Cookies and Temporary files delete

You are ready now to Transfer your Work using the FTP I use the Core FTP or WEB CEO or you can use any other because they all work the same way.
Go into 3/ Core FTP

Item 3/  Core FTP
If there is no FTP on your Computer there are free ones.  I use. Core FTP or WEB CEO.
Simply go into Google and download it. The simplest is Core FTP.
If you have it such as Core FTP Click it twice to open and  it will open.
A window comes up

You will only need to fill in
Host www.yourbusiness.com
User Name. which s supplied with Domain, User Name and Password.
Password. Put in Password
Then press Connect.

It opens your site and in the right window right click twice the www then your site is loaded in this right window.
On the left bottom you can see the site being loaded.

Such as: The right window below is where the WEB Site I developed for you. It loads after you pressed twice the www. As I discussed above.

If your WEB Site is not in your Computer already, the left window. You can bring the WEB Site I prepared by selecting all using the right click to highlight the WEB Site the right side window.

You will notice above the window highlighted a blue arrow pointing left. If not highlighted then redo the highlighting of the WEB Site Files

You are now ready to transfer your site into your Computer

In the left window you will look for your Folder you organised in your  FrontPage.  So look for it.
By:
On the left you will see beside the arrow 3 little lines click that and it opens into your Computer.  3 little line
Probably you will need to double click the left mouse  My Documents and find the folder. My WEB Sites.
When you open My WEB Sites it should open to a Folder you called your Business click that and if I did not put your WEB Site into your Computer it will be empty.

Click the blue arrow above the right window and it will transfer your site into your Computer.

Once transferred simply collapse the Core FTP and let it sit on the Task Pane on the bottom. After a few minutes the Core FTP  will automatically close down so you will need to reconnect later.

Once you set up the Core FTP or WEB CEO when you reloaded again you will not need to re-enter information because the FTP is ready to be used each time and all you will have to do is connect, double click the www and you are ready to transfer Data whether it be from your Computer to be Published or to bring Files down into your Computer. Even if you close down your Computer, next time you Load the information will still be in place. All you have to do is reconnect.

If you use the WEB CEO FTP it does not disconnect after a few minutes. It is not as easy to use as the Core FTP.
I use both.

You are ready now to use your  FrontPage Editor. Go back to 1 Item above
.........................

You are now ready to Publish
Bring up your Core FTP or other. If it is disconnected, connect it again the same as discussed above.

On the right window you should see the Published Site and on the left you should see your work. If not go back and find that Folder as discussed previously.

Once you see your work you can either publish the entire site or simply highlight the changes you have made. The blue arrow at the top should be active blue and arrow points right. Click the arrow and the changes are moved into the right window. If a window comes up whether to overwrite or not click the all and it will make the changes. Often you will be redoing pages.

Once the transfer is done simply have a look to see the work is ok.

Well that is about all I need to talk about.
If you have the energy you can hunt down more information.

Item 4   PayPal Buttons
PayPal has a user friendly method for Shopping Carts. For you to put up the Buttons and maintain a Shopping Cart
Customers find it easy to use the PayPal Shopping Cart.

I set up the Shopping Cart fully for you, and all you the Seller has to do is put the PayPal Buttons on and Change prices which is easy to do.

For Customers there are instructions how to use the Paypal Shopping Cart on your Shopping Cart and you can see  instructions on this Sample Shopping Cart which is fully functional but nothing is For Sale. The instructions goes into your Shopping Cart.

For the Merchant the Seller it is straight Forward. you have a few steps to remember.

You need to have a PayPal Account and the type Account is Premier so that Credit Cards can be used.

When you Login you go to the Merchant Services at the top  and on the right where Key Features are listed you can choose either a Buy Now Button or the PayPal Shopping Cart. Both Buttons work the same.

If you choose the Shopping Cart Click the Paypal Shopping Cart and you have a window to fill out.

Spent time testing all  links available. The Customer Button allows you  have options for a single item. Things like small or large and have different prices. . You can have a smaller Shopping Cart Button .

Once you have filled out the Form you click the Create Button this takes you to a window where the Code for the Button is displayed Copy that Code.

Then go back to FrontPage 2003 where your Shopping Cart is. You click on that page where your Button is to go

Then go to the bottom of the page on the left where you see, Design, Split, Code, Preview. Click Code The Code opens, then right click the mouse to Paste the Code or the Paste at the top of the page. While you do this make sure you have not clicked the left mouse because your Button will move from where you wanted the Button to be.

You cannot Copy and Paste the Button around the page. Decide where you want it. Click the Code  then in the Code page Paste , and the Button should be where you wanted.
If you try to move the Button on the page you could be sorry. It may not work and if you do a lot of work you might have to spend time to fix mistakes. It is best to do things and test it regularly .

To maintain your Shopping Cart to make changes all you have to do is remove the Button under the item and do a completely new button and the Shopping Cart will keep working.
I think you can save your Buttons in your PayPal Account somewhere, but you would need to discover it yourself because I have always produced completely new buttons.

If I set up your WEB Site and Shopping Cart I will help you to get the job done. But you do need to contact me.

Look at Step 2 or Step 3

Step 3 is important You have a window where Customers can give you requirements. and
there is another window where once people buy a window can come up thanking Customers for coming and buying.
